Synopsis

This book provides an overview of bird migrations in the Argentine Andes. Due to their environmental complexity and the country’s extensive latitudinal range (exceeding 32° latitude), many species exhibit different types of movements. We consider 121 species and subspecies with proven or well-supported migrations: 95 of them undertake altitudinal movements, 30 make short altitudinal movements, 11 are nomadic, and 14 are transcordilleran, regularly crossing the Andes. Furthermore, 61 species
are classified as Southern or Neotropical latitudinal migrants, and 11 as Boreal or Nearctic latitudinal migrants. Among the Southern ones, the Non-Passeriformes comprise 62 species and subspecies across 17 families, which migrate through the Andean mountain range, while the Order Passeriformes includes 58 species and subspecies, 27 of the Suborder Tyranni
(Suboscines) and 31 of the Suborder Passeres (Oscines).
