Synopsis

The objective of this work is to bring seabirds closer to those people who do not have the possibility of observing them in their natural environment. At the same time, it also presents and shows part of the Ornithological Collection of the Miguel Lillo Foundation. Depending on the material they contain, there are different types of collections, some for scientific purposes and others for educational purposes. The latter
are exhibited in museums or temporary exhibitions such as the Shipton Collection, an integral part of the Ornithological Collection of the Miguel Lillo Foundation, to which the birds discussed in this publication belong. The present paper contains a record of 26 species belonging to 13 families and 5 orders of birds. For each species, a file was compiled containing the following information: scientific name in Latin,
generic name in Spanish, Portuguese and English, general description, biological data, type of habitat, geographical distribution in the country, conservation status at national and international level, and an illustration made by the artists from the Iconography Department of Miguel Lillo Foundation. The seabirds inhabiting Argentine are little-known in our region and some of them are endangered. Hence, the
importance of this practical catalog, whose main purpose is to allow us to access the knowledge of this very particular group of birds. This work also shows the importance of biological collections that allow access not only to be studied by specialists, but also for educational, divulgation and recreational purposes.
