VIP

Vicariance Inference Program

VIP (Vicariance Inference Program) is a free and open source program for historical biogeography analysis. VIP uses a Spatial Vicariance Analysis [1], based on the ideas of Peter Hovenkamp [2],[3]. Unlike other biogeography methods and programs, VIP uses direct geographic information data instead of predefined areas. Also, VIP is developed under a graphic user interface paradigm.

NOTE!
Further development of the ideas in VIP is implemented in GEM , which supersedes VIP; the ms. describing details is in preparation.

VIP binaries for Windows and Linux are available, as well as C source code. It is released under GPL Creative Commons license.
