Resumo

The author studies the chromosomes in the genus Trillium, which is perhaps the most favorable subject among plants and animals, due to the large size of its elements. It shows that the concept that one has regarding the organization of chromosomes is not proven in the structure of the genus Trillium. The chromomers, which are supposed to be the morphological representatives of genes, turn out to be only an optical illusion and do not actually have a structural existence. In addition, it rejects the hypothesis of reduction or reproductive division because it does not find it founded. These conclusions, if true, would profoundly modify the cytological concepts held to date.
