Abstract

?Helminthosporium turcicum Pass. in the Argentine Republic?. H. turcicum is a very common fungus in the Argentine Republic. Inoculations made on corn gives 81% infection, being favored by environmental humidity. The infection can be direct or indirect. Conidiophores are produced just through the stomata. The fungus develops in good form on artificial culture medium; the spores produced on it are smaller than those of natural conditions. Vegetative development is quicker at 28°C than at 20°C, but spores are produced in greater size and number at 20°C. This is the first time that H. turcicum has been demonstrated in this country, on Sorghum vulgare var. sudanense and S. vulgare var. kafir.
