Serrano, Soledad; Patricia Albornoz y Omar Varela. 2007. “Leaf anatomy of Boconia pearcei (Papaveraceae) in the Province of Tucumán (Argentina)”. Lilloa 44 (1-2). Bocconia pearcei Hutch. is a small tree (2-5 meters high) with leaves deeply pinnatipartited that inhabit in the montane cloud forests from northwestern Argentina. This study describes the leaf anatomy of Bocconia pearcei Hutch., based on the analysis of fresh material collected in four sites on the west slopes of Sierra del Aconquija, Tucumán. Leaves of 10 plants were sampled in each site. Fresh material was fixed in FAA. Conventional histological techniques were used. The results show that leaves are dorsiventral, anfistomatic with anomo-actinocytic stomata; the trichomes are single and glandular, and the laticifers are articulated. The vascular bundles are collateral. The petiole is subcircle whit vascular bundles collateral (7-10), sclerenchyma and colenchyma subepidermical. The stomatic index differs significantly among plants of different locations. The leaf features have diagnostic value and can be useful to difference this species.
