Abstract

Guantay, María E.; Alberto C. Slanis and Eva del V. Bulacio. 2008. “Characterisation of the indumentum stem of Acalypha poiretii (Euphorbiaceae, Acalypheae)”. Lilloa 45 (1-2). Acalypha L. comprises about 500 species, of which 14 were reported for Argentina. We were unable to identify Acalypha plant material from Tucumán province using Lour teig & O’Donnell (1942) key. The material was later identified as A. poiretii Spreng. by comparison with LIL herbarium exsiccata. The main problem with the key proposed by these authors lays on the grouping of A. poiretii together with others that lack stem glandular hairs. This is not coincident with our observations. The objective of the present paper is to describe A. poiretii stem indumentum and evaluate its taxonomic value. The following stem indumentum types were found: a) long eglandular trichome; b) medium size eglandular trichome; c) medium to long size gland and d) short gland. Induments found on the stems of A. poiretii can serve as good taxonomic tools.
