Pollen morphology of the Argentinean species of the genus Talinum (Talinaceae) and Phemeranthus (Montiacaceae)

García, María E.; Alberto C. Slanis. 2010. “Pollen morphology of the Argentinean species of the genus Talinum (Talinaceae) and Phemeranthus (Montiacaceae)”. Lilloa 47 (1-2). Talinum Adanson (Talinaceae) is represented by 3 species in Argentina: T. fruticosum (L.) Juss., T. paniculatum (Jacq.) Gaernt. and T. polygaloides Gillies ex Arn. On the other hand, Phemeranthus punae (R. E. Fr.) Eggli & Nyffelerer, the only South American species of the genus, is endemic to northwestern Argentina. Pollen morphology of the Argentinean species of both genera has been studied by light and scanning electron microscopy. The results showed that de polynical morphology agree with the general characteristics mentioned for the Portulacaceae s. l. by Erdtman (1952). Talinum fruticosum presents spheroidal, pantoporate grain, 55 µm of diameter, cirulars ora with annulus, granular aper ture membrane. In T. paniculatum, T. polygaloides and P. punae the grains are spheroidal pantocolpates, radiosymmetrics. In T. paniculatum the grain size is 40 µm, in T. polygaloides is 50 µm, as long as in P. punae is 46 µm
