Abstract

Cantero, E. A.; J. A. González; F. E. Prado. “Responses to seasonal water deficit in two Piper species growing in an altitudinal gradient in Sierra de San Javier (Tucumán, Argentina)”. Lilloa 47 (1-2). The objective of this work was the study of the interactions between environmental data and morphological and physiological variables in Piper tucumanum and Piper Hieronymi along a gradient elevation in the mountain range of San Javier (Tucuman, Argentine). Measurements of water potential (?); specific leaf area (SLA) and photosynthetic (chlorophylls, carotenoids) and protective (flavonoids) pigments were analyzed in the gradient. Another studies included leaf anatomy. All the data obtained were correlated with climatic data of the sites where both species were grown. From the analysis of the results we can conclude that both species does not present the typical characteristics observed in other species in others elevation gradients. While climate data varied in elevation gradient, microclimatic conditions of the population located 970 meters influenced the outcome of most of the parameters studied.
