Abstract

Bulacio, Eva; María I. Mercado; Graciela I. Ponessa. 2013. “Morphology and anatomy of vegetative organs of Tropaeolum capillare (Tropaeolaceae)”. Lilloa 50 (2). Tropaeolum capillare Buchenau grows mainly at the foot of the mountain ranges of northwestern Argentina and Bolivia between 500 and 1500 m. In Argentina lives in the Catamarca, Jujuy, Salta and Tucumán provinces, being in this last, characteristic of the montane forest. The foliar architecture, morphology and anatomy of the vegetative organs are described. Conventional techniques of plant anatomy were performed. Tropaeolum capillare has simple, alternate and long petioled leaves. Suborbicular to elliptic blades, palmately, slightly serrated, with straight or subcordate basis and acute vascularized apex. The venation is actinodroma, main nerves with branching excurrent. In cross section the blade is dorsiventral, hipostomatic. The abaxial epidermis is papillose and presents anomocytic stomata. The petiole has six closed collateral vascular bundles surrounded by a ring of fibers. The stem vascular bundle is an eustelic structure. The roots have a diarch protoestela. The features mentioned in this study are an important contribution to characterized this species
