Pollen morphology of Urticaceae from the Tucumán province (Argentina)

The aim of this study was to contribute to the knowledge of Urticaceae pollen morphology, widely recorded in the aerobiological monitoring in Tucumán. The following species were analyzed by optical microscope and scanning electron microscopes: Boehmeria caudata Sw., Parietaria debilis G. Forst., Phenax laevigatus Wedd., Pilea microphylla (L.) Liebm., P. hyalina Fenzl., Urera caracasana (Jacq.) Gaudich. ex Griseb., Urtica chamaedryoides Pursh subsp. microsperma Hauman, U. circularis (Hicken) Sorarú, U. echinata Benth., U. lilloi (Hauman) Geltman U. mollis Steud. and U. urens L. We worked with natural and acetolyzed grains. The grains are small, 9-19 µm, suboblate to prolate- spheroidal, 2-3-4 zonoporate, with and the surface ranging from psilate to verrucate, with nano and microspinules and in some cases, with perforations
