Abstract

Caro, María S.; Ana I. Ruiz; Patricia L. Albornoz. 2014. “Morphology, leaf anatomy and cytological contribution of the Adesmia cordobensis var. cordobensis (Fabaceae) in Northwestern Argentina”. Lilloa 51 (2). Adesmia cordobensis var. cordobensis Burkart is a perennial herb endemic to Argentina that presents winter growth and compound, paripinnate leaves. The aim of this investigation was to describe the morphology, leaf anatomy and provide information about the chromosome number of this variety. The material collected in the province of Catamarca, was fixed in FAA. Conventional cytological and histological techniques were used. A. cordobensis var. cordobensis presents elliptic - lanceolate leaflets that fold on the prominent midrib, with a camptodrome-broquidodrome pinnate venation. It is a diploid species with 2n = 2x = 20. In sur face view, the cells of both epidermises are rectangular with lobed walls; stomata are anomocityc, anomotetracityc, hemiparacityc, braquiparacityc and anisocityc. It develops glandular and eglandular trichomes, the former are tricellular and adpressed. Glandular trichomes are multicellular, shor t, with a terminal gland. The blade is equilateral, amphistomatic, with both epidermises monostratified, presenting colateral bundles and buliform cells. The petiole is shor t, presenting circular, simple tricellular trichomes with ornamented cuticle, a single collateral vascular bundle surrounded by collenchymatous and clerenchymatous sheaths. The leaf anatomy of A. cordobensis var. cordobensis is described for the first time. The elements of diagnostic value for identification are: absence of spines, pubescence, two stamens attached to the base of the banner, chromosome number, type of venation, presence of buliform cells, stomata and trichomes type.
