On the physical properties of a wood little known in the industry: that of the itin or tiger's beard (Prosopis kuntzei Harms)

Abstract

The itin is a strange tree from the north and west of Argentina. Its wood is extremely hard, extremely strong, very heavy and durable. The author has examined this wood and determined its specific gravity, density, porosity, tensile, compressive and flexural strength. In addition, gasification tests were carried out and the calorific value of the wood gas, the wood consumption in horsepower hours in a gas engine and other important values for the technology were determined.
