Morphology of leaf and seed of Fagara coco (Gill.) Engler (Rutaceae)

Abstract

A species known as ?cochucho?, with popular medicinal uses in Tucumán, Argentina is studied.This plant is found from the wet, hot eastern areas to warm zones in the western Argentine regions separated by Chaco and Espinal, were the genus cannot be found. The compound leaves have an open, camptodromus, symetrical pattern. Their anatomic characters are: dorsiventral hipostomatic leaf, epidermis cells of straight and ondulate walls anomocitic stomata. The trichoma are peltate and simple. The middle nerve has two opposite vascular bundles, one more developped than the other. Secretory structures are also observed. The seed derives from a campilotropus ovule. In transverse sections the seed coat consists of three layers.
