Abstract

Leaf anatomy and venation of Myrrhinium atropurpureum var. octandrum Benth from northwestern Argentina was reported. The purpose of this study is to give profitable information in order to be used taxonomically. The species exhibit the following anatomical features: simple and unicellular hairs, anomocytic stomata, dorsiventral mesophyll, secretory cavities, idioblast with calcium oxalate crytals. The venation pattern is pinnate-camptodromous-brochidodromous, with marginal ultimate venation mainly incomplete and areoles enclosing ramified vein endings.
