A synopsis of Solanaceae is presented in Tucumán (Argentina) based on exomorphologic and phytogeographic data. Two Subfamilies mentioned by Hunziker (1979, 1995), 7 Tribes and 21 genera are represented in the province as follows: Subfamily Solanoideae A. L. Jussieu, Tribe Solaneae A. L. Jussieu (genus Solanum L., Capsicum L., Cyphomandra Sendtn., Dunalia Kunth, lochroma Benth., Lycianthes (Dunal) Hassl., Physalis L. and genus Vassobia Rusby), Tribe Datureae Rchb. (Datura L.), Tribe Jaboroseae Miers (Jaborosa Juss. and Salpichroa Miers), Tribe Lycieae Hunz. (Lycium L. and Grabowskia Schlecht.) and Tribe Nicandreae Miers (Nicandra Miers). Subfamily Cestroideae Schlecht., Tribe Cestreae G. Don (Cestrum L.), Tribe Nicotianeae G. Don, Subtribe Nicotianinae G. Don Nicotiana L., Fabiana Ruiz et Pav. and Petunia Juss.), Subtribe Nierembergiinae Hunz. et Andr. Cocucci (Nierembergia Ruiz et Pav. and Bouchetia Dunal) and Subtribe Leptoglossinae Hunz. (Leptoglossis Benth.) . These genera, with all their vegetable formations are widely represented in the Provincie of Tucumán 17 of them (81%) are situated in the chaco Forest and 15 of them (17%) live in the transition Forest or the lower mountain caducifolia Forest. Puna and the High-andine formations are poor in Solanaceae where we can only find two genera (Solanum and Fabiana). Bouchetia shows an altitudinal distribution more enclosed than Solanum which is the widest.
Almost 100 species were registered to this date: 42 belong to Solanum, 7 belong to genera with a single species (Bouchetia, Leptoglossis, Datura, Nicandra, Cyphomandra, lochroma and Dunalia) and the remaining ones belong to another genera. Five species are reported for the first time in Tucumán.
This work has been illustrated with a geographical distribution map, 21 sheets and 2 graphics.
