Abstract

“Records of egg, nestling and fledgling predators of argentine birds”. This work is the result of field observations and studies made in Argentina between 1978 and 2015. New information is provided on the identification of predators of eggs, nestlings and fledglings, as well as on the identification of the prey species. With regard to birds of prey, the information provided is only for Non-Passeriformes, Passeriformes predators data was provided in a previous work. Three types of vertebrates were recorded as predators: a spe- cies of reptile predated eggs and nestlings, twenty-four species of birds preyed on eggs, nestlings and fledglings, and three species of mammals preyed on eggs and nestlings. In this study, the Southern Crested Caracara ( Caracara plancus ), the Chimango Caracara ( Milvago chimango ), and the Kelp Gull ( Larus dominicanus ) were the major predators of eggs, nest- lings, and fledglings. Information about new predators and preys in Argentina is provided, increasing knowledge about their biology and ecology.
