Avifauna of the province of La Rioja (Argentina): annotated list of species

Abstract

We present a list of all bird species recorded in the province of La Rioja with known locality. Data were obtained from the literature and the analysis of museum specimens. We repor t a total of 48 families and 266 species, four of which did not have a precise record for the province. In addition, we report new localities for another 60 species. Specimens from collections came from Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales, the Félix de Azara Collection, both from Buenos Aires, the Museo de La Plata, and the Fundación Miguel Lillo, Tucumán.
