One hundred and sixteen species of birds, belonging to 27 families, were recorded in five localities, on top and on the eastern and western slopes of the mountains Cumbres Calchaquíes in northern Argentina. We registered eight threatened species, rare or vulnerable (Oroaetus isidori, Buteo ventralis, Buteo albigula, Asthenes maculicauda, Agriornis andicola albicauda, Anthus bogotensis shiptoni, Cinclus schulzi, Compsospiza baeri), several migratory species from the Neartic (Tringa flavipes,Calidris bairdii, Calidris fuscicollis, Bartramia longicauda, Phalaropus tricolor) and others coming from South of Argentina (Buteo albigula, Buteo ventralis, Buteo polyosoma, Falco peregrinus cassini, Milvago chimango, Muscisaxicola capistrata, Anairetes parulus, Zonotrichia capensis australis, Poospiza ornata). We also report the migratory route of several predator birds through the pass of El Infiernillo, Tafí del Valle, Tucumán. This pass is also an important stopover for other bird species, these records being new for northern Argentina.
