Abstract

Between 2008 and 2012, studies on birds were conducted in different parts of the province of La Rioja, Argentina. The information was based on field observations, song identification and captures in mist nets. This study provides six new records of birds for the province as well as new localities for 15 species. The reservoirs play an important role for several aquatic species such as Podiceps major y Coscoroba coscoroba, which have expanded their distribution, and for migratory species such as Tringa flavipes y Tringa melanoleuca .
