Abstract

The Lesser butterfly ray Gymnura lessae is endemic to the northwesten Atlantic, including the Gulf of Mexico. It is a species with sexual dimorphism, viviparous and with an annual reproductive cycle. This contribution confirms the maximum number of pups in the species (n=11; 5 in the right uterus and 6 in the left) and provides data on the embryos of a female (940 mm disc width) caught in the southeastern Gulf of Mexico.
