Protection of natural resources in the province of Tucumán (especially fauna)
Keywords:
Tucumán, geography, ecology, natural resources, faunaAbstract
Of all the Argentine provinces, Tucuman possesses the greatest variety of physiographic ambients and due to its size these are closely grouped over a relatively small area. In general the phytogeographic and zoogeographic zones coincide, or at least this is true in the case of the larger vertebrates. Projects have from time to time been proposed for the formation of nature reserves, the most recent of which contemplates five separate areas, Rio Cochuna, Cumbres Calchaquies, Cumbre de los Ñuñorcos, Ibatin y La Florida. To these may be added, though in a somewhat different sense, the University Park at Horco Molle, Parque Aconquija y Los Lapachos. Suggested regulations for the conservation of the fauna and flora are given and attention is called to the formation of an association by certain members of the Miguel Lillo Foundation and Institute for the protection of the natural resources, both renewable as those that will inevitably disappear if they are not carefully preserved.
