“Characterization and biometric parameters of birds in a fragment of Atlan- tic Forest in Misiones, Argentina”. The Atlantic Forest in Argentina is considered to be the most diverse and with the highest degree of bird endemism in the region. During one week in March 2011, in the Parque Provincial Cruce Caballero in San Pedro, Misiones, Argentina, birds were sampled using mist nets and censuses in transects. We recorded 146 species, 32 of them using mist nets. Seven of the captured species represent 50% of total cap- tures: Schiffornis virescens (Pipridae), ileuterus culicivorus (Parulidae), B. leucoblepharus (Parulidae), Tachyphonus coronatus (Thraupidae), Trichothraupis melanops (Thraupidae), Pyri- glena leucoptera (Thamnophilidae) and Conopophaga lineata (Formicariidae). More than half of the individuals captured were young birds born during the breeding season. Captured birds were generally small, between 5 grams ( Phaetornis eurynome ) to 140 grams ( Geotrygon montana ), and 80 % of species weighing between 8 and 22 grams The presence of Spizas- tur melanoleucus, Amazona vinacea, Pteroglossus bailloni, Dryocopus galeatus, Ciccaba huhu- la, Phylloscartes eximius, Piculus aurulentus, Phylidor atricapillus, Leptasthenura setaria, Hylopezus nattereri, Psilorhamphus guttatus, and Haplospiza unicolor, in the same plots give a high value to this small reserve of 600 hectares due to varying degrees of vulnerability and / or threat to these species and supports the great efforts made by the authorities and ornithologists to maintain it. It also justifies the annexation of surrounding areas to prevent isolation.
