The author shows that T. schreiteri Vellard is a species from the Serranía de Velasco, La Rioja province (Argentina). It is quite distinct from the form always quoted under this name from the region of Tafí del Valle, Tucumán province (Argentina). This form which is still considered as a race of T. hauthali is described as laticeps subsp. n. Further analysis shows also that the populations living west of the Infiernillo are subspecifically separable from laticeps under the name of pisanoi subsp. n. The holotype of Telmatobius oxycephalus Vellard has been rediscovered: barrioi Laurent is here considered a synonym.
