The author, observing unusual characters like scale organs and morphometry of head plates, mentions 7 species in northwestern Argentina, Leptotyphlops vellardi is described as new. The validity of L. weyrauchi Orejas-Miranda is doubtful, whereas both L. albipuncta (Jan) and L. striatula Smith and Laufe appear distinct from L. melanotermus (Cope). The type locality (Tucuman) of L. albipuncta is deemed erroneous, since not a single specimen was found among the large series from Tucuman.
