Abstract

Geological characters of the Sierra de la Ovejería basament, Catamarca Province?. The metamorphic rocks (Suncho Formation) have been affected by a low regional metamorphism, and contact metamorphism around the Branitic intrusion. This formation contained trace fossils (Oldhamia radiata Forbes) indicating a Lower Cambrian age. The plutonic rocks (Capillitas Granite) are principally sienogranites, of Upper Ordovician ? Lower Silurian age. Milonitic, sedimentary and volcanic rocks, and the principals structural characteristics of the zone are also described.
