Abstract

Stratigraphy and tectonic evolution of the Quebrada de La Rioja, Argentina?. The present work aims to carry out an analysis of the different lithological and structural units that make up the rift valley of the Quebrada de La Rioja. Until now, different works of a regional nature have been carried out in this area which, unfortunately, did not insist on this interesting geological problem. There have been theoretical approaches, such as those of Cuerda (1973) and Baldis et al. (1975), who tried to explain the tectonic behavior of the Sierras Pampeanas in general and the Velasco cordon in particular. In these, as in others of a regional nature, the issue raised here was not addressed in depth and that, as will be seen, serves to explain interesting regional geological aspects and structural evolution of the Sierra de Velasco.
