Abstract

Geological outlines of the zone of Molinos, Salta province?. The region betwen the localities Molinos and Santuario is described. It comprises the Formations Puncoviscana and La Paya, as well as the granitic intrusions of Cachi and Molinos Formations of Early Paleozoic age s. l. and cretacic continental sediments (Pirgua Formations). Their structural lines reveal two main directions with high angle inverse regional dislocations, plunging to the E, and smaller fractures plunging mainly NNW-SSE. The neocretacic sediments show a phase of tertiary folding.
