Abstract

Geological outline of Sierra de Ancasti, Catamarca prov.?. Sierra de Ancasti is a mount chaine 170 km long, plunging to the E. Its basement is made up of crystalline formations. The Ancasti Formation holds banding schists with quartz-oligoclase-biotite (microcline-muscovite). The Sierra Brava Formation forms the extreme south of the Sierra and presents a complex lithology with granulose gneisses micaschists, amphibolite-biotite schists and marbles. The Ancasti structure is the result of compression and plunge with high angle fractures of inverse character, the principal of them plunging to the E, and antithetic compensation fractures.
